Signs of Spring

While signs of Mother Nature's spring are eagerly awaited, the Summit Volunteer First Aid squad is putting up its own Capital Campaign signs all around the town, urging support for squad's badly needed new building.

Campaign raising $5 million for new Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad building

The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad has taken a very big step, launching its first capital campaign in 50 years.

The effort is well on its way, with community leaders and one corporation contributing $4.3 million of the $5 million goal.

A volunteer fundraising committee comprised of former Mayor Jordan Glatt; Brett Haire, president of the Other Fellow First Foundation; and corporate partner Kevin Cummings, CEO of Investors Savings, is leading the effort.

Summit volunteers collect donations to benefit New Jersey Community Food Bank

Despite the frigid weather, the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad and a number of other volunteers turned out to collect frozen turkeys, canned goods and donations to benefit the New Jersey Community Food Bank on Nov. 24.

Free CPR Course in November

The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad will host another free CPR class at their building on Thursday, November 21 from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM.  Successful students will receive a “CPR for Healthcare Providers” certificate from the American Heart Association.  The First Aid Squad building is located on Summit Ave. across from the Lawton C. Johnson Middle School.

First Aid Squad Hosts Emergency Preparedness Class

The First Aid Squad will host a session “Are You Ready” On Sunday, September 29 at 7 PM at their building.  Participants will learn how to create a disaster plan, build a supply kit and make the “stay or go” decision. Information from the American Red Cross and the City’s newly forming Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) will also be available.

First Aid Squad to Replace 50-Year-Old Building

The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad was given unanimous approval at Tuesday's City Council meeting to move forward with its plans to replace its current but outdated facility.

Mayor Proclaims September as Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Month

At the September 17 Common Council meeting, Mayor Ellen Dickson presented First Aid Squad leaders with a City proclamation designating September as Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Month

Summit First Aid Squad Juniors Win Scholarship Awards

Four graduating high school students from the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Junior Program have been awarded the Investors Savings Alice B. Nichols Scholarship Award for 2013.  The awards were given to Junior Members Carl Ganger, Alex Fortune, Michael Gelber, and Miriam Meller.
