Summit EMTs are Union County Students of the Year

Two of our volunteers, Stephen Brown and John Buscaino, recently completed the Emergency Medical Technician training program at Union County College and were awarded Student of the Year honors for their work in class.  According to Laurie Sheldon the EMT Program Director, Stephen and John were selected as the “students who best exemplified the attitude, knowledge and skills an EMT should have”.

First Aid Squad Brings Home a Piece of the World Trade Center

The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad was recently awarded a piece of steel from the former World Trade Center which is now on display in their building.  About 1,800 such artifacts are or will be given to public safety agencies and local governments that successfully apply.

In 1961, Betty Bangs and fellow Junior League member Sis Barker formed a committee to organize an ambulance squad for Summit and on July 28, 1962, the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad began service.

Wednesday Day Crew use EMT skills

Three members of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad’s Wednesday Day Crew used their EMT skills to successfully revive a patient in cardiac arrest earlier this month. The crew used their cardiac defibrillator, delivered one shock and restored the patient’s heartbeat. The squad learned last week that the patient has been discharged from the hospital and returned to their normal life.
