Annual Fund Drive is Underway

October 4, 2015

The First Aid Squad's annual fund drive, the primary source of revenue for the all-volunteer EMS agency is now underway.  The Squad  receives no tax dollars and is funded entirely through private donations.  The Summit community was very generaous to the Squad's capital building campaign over the past 2 years and members moved into their newly constructed headquarters in June.   At the Spetmber 8 Common Council meeting, Mayor Ellen Dickson encouraged all to support the First Aid Squad’s annual fund drive effort which is used to support day-to-day squad operations.

Summit Squad Assists Philadelphia During Papal Visit

September 25, 2015

Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia this week is expected to draw crowds as large as the City has ever seen.  As a result Philadelphia officials have been requesting assistance from first responders across the region.  Many New Jersey EMS agencies will be staged just across the river in Camden   The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad is one of just 13 New Jersey agencies approved to stage inside Philadelphia.  Summit volunteers will be part of a team consisting of 8 Basic Life Support ambulances and 2 paramedic units to stand by in the City on Sunday.  A similar team from New Jersey will do t

Squad Members See a Busy Start in August

August 7, 2015

August is usually a quiet, relaxing month in Summit. Schools are closed and many families vacation during this time.  As a result it’s generally the least busy month for the Summit First Aid Squad.

 

However, if this first week of August 2015 is any indication, things may be different this year.  Squad volunteers answered 3 simultaneous ambulance calls Tuesday morning and mid-day on Thursday did it again, followed by 2 more simultaneous calls just 30 minutes after clearing the first 3.

Many Friends Help Squad Dedicate New Building

July 13, 2015

About 300 people turned out to help the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad celebrate the Grand Opening of their new headquarters building.  Guests included current and former members, including a few charter members (from 1962), donors, designers, builders, members of our Police and Fire departments, neighboring EMS Squads, and Overlook MICU as well as several City officials.  Mayor Ellen Dickson led the ribbon cutting ceremony joined by Squad President Ken Herr, Captain Kari Phair, Building Committee Chair Carl Ganger, Common Council members Al Dill and Rich Madden and Alan Lieber, president

Squad Moves into New Home! Join Us for the July 4 Dedication

After more than 7 years of planning, 3 years of fundraising and a year of construction, the First Aid Squad has relocated to its newly completed headquarters building on Summit Ave.  Since May of last year, the Squad had been operating from temporary facilities donated by Chip Duane of the Salerno Duane Auto Group.

Summit Volunteer Honored During EMS Week

Jonathan Salazar an Emergency Medical Technician with the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad was honored by Overlook Medical Center with the EMT Excellence Award at Overlook’s annual EMS Awards dinner last night.  Overlook has sponsored this event for many years to observe National Emergency Medical Services Week and recognize area pre-hospital emergency medical providers.

May 17 - 23 is National EMS Week

May 17, 2015

National EMS Week, May 17-23, 2015, is a time to honor local EMS responders and promote awareness of their everyday services to the public.  Months ago, members of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad had hoped to celebrate EMS week this year in grand fashion by officially opening their new headquarters on Elm Street across from the Middle School.  While the building is nearly complete, it’s not quite ready for squad members to move in yet. So, that celebration will come in July.  The Squad expects to start operating from the new building in June.
