Annual Fund Drive is Underway

Sun, 2015-10-04 16:58 -- John Staunton

The First Aid Squad's annual fund drive, the primary source of revenue for the all-volunteer EMS agency is now underway.  The Squad  receives no tax dollars and is funded entirely through private donations.  The Summit community was very generaous to the Squad's capital building campaign over the past 2 years and members moved into their newly constructed headquarters in June.   At the Spetmber 8 Common Council meeting, Mayor Ellen Dickson encouraged all to support the First Aid Squad’s annual fund drive effort which is used to support day-to-day squad operations.

A letter to each home and business in Summit should have arrived last week.  The First Aid Squad does not use ouitside fund raising agencies and does not solicit by phone.  Like all of their services, the fund drive itself is managed by volunteers.  Online donations are also accepted.

Squad volunteers answered more than 2,100 calls for help in 2014 and since 1962 neither their patients nor the taxpayer has ever received a bill.

In addition to contributions used to pay for supplies, training and ambulances, the First Aid Squad is always looking for new volunteers to add to their ranks.  To learn more about becoming a volunteer, call the Squad buildiong at 908-277-9479 or click here.
