Summit EMS Volunteer Honored by Overlook

John Staunton and Summit EMS Chief Kari Phair.

John Staunton, a 33 year member of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad was honored with the 2017 EMS Excellence Award by Overlook Medical Center during National EMS Week.  Staunton joined the squad in 1983 and has served in several leadership positions including multiple terms as Training Lieutenant, Equipment Lieutenant, Captain, Trustee, and President. He is currently the Squad's Public Information Officer and  has been the Crew Chief on Monday nights for 20 years..John is also a certified EMT Instructor and teaches a variety of EMS related classes for Atlantic Health.

Squad Chief Kari Phair who nominated Staunton for the award commented, ."I have had the opportunity to respond to emergencies with John, allowing me to observe him provide excellent patient care and comfort not only to the patient but also to family members on scene..  John has been a true asset to the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad helping to write policies and reshape our bylaws.  He has earned the respect not only of his Monday Night crew, but the Squad as a whole.  John is an accomplished leader who graciously gives of himself to help others and continues to be a vital part of our Organization.  The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad is proud and privileged to have John as a member and to nominate him for the Overlook EMT Excellence Award."

Overlook Medical Center has supported the local EMS comnnunity for many tears by sponsoring the EMS Week dinner and presenting the EMS Exellence Award to area EMS responders.

The all-volunteer First Aid Squad is always looking for new members to join its ranks. All needed training, uniforms and equipment is provided. The Squad is funded entirely through private donations and provides all services free of charge. For information, please call 908-277-9479, or click HERE.
