Another Busy Day for EMS Volunteers

Wed, 2017-04-19 16:45 -- John Staunton
Summit Squad 3 responding to an emergency

Just 1 week after Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad members answered 11 calls in a single day, the same teams covered 12 calls yesterday.

The Monday night crew again began this run with a 5:50 AM response a medical emergency in a private home. After 8 AM, the Tuesday Day crew along with several off-duty members answered another 10 calls while the Tuesday night crew closed out the day with a response to the Public Library just before 9 PM

Responses for the day included 3 medical emergencies in the patient’s home, medical emergencies at an assisted living facility, a physician’s office, a local school, the Village Green, the Public Library and in a car stopped on Route 78. Summit First Aid Squad members also responded to a request from neighboring Millburn for a medical emergency at a downtown business. The Squad also handled 2 non-emergency ambulance transports of a Summit resident.  Summit continues to offers non- emergency transport services when available and is one of the few volunteer organizations that still does so.

At 1 point, 3 Summit ambulances were answering simultaneous calls and at 5 different times during the day at least 2 ambulances were in use.  As was the case last week several off duty members quickly responded to help staff the 2nd and 3rd ambulances.   Squad President Mike D’Ecclessis who responded to 4 of those calls himself commented “We are truly lucky in Summit to have volunteers ready able and willing to answer the call for help at a moment’s notice”.

The all-volunteer First Aid Squad is always looking for new members to join its ranks. All needed training, uniforms and equipment is provided. For information, please call 908-277-9479, or Click HERE.
