Two of our volunteers, Stephen Brown and John Buscaino, recently completed the Emergency Medical Technician training program at Union County College and were awarded Student of the Year honors for their work in class. According to Laurie Sheldon the EMT Program Director, Stephen and John were selected as the “students who best exemplified the attitude, knowledge and skills an EMT should have”.
Stephen is a member of the Tuesday day crew. John volunteers on the Friday Night crew, where coincidentally, Stephen's wife Beverly is the Crew Chief. Squad Captain Kari Phair, was pleased to congratulate both men on their achievement: “The First Aid Squad has been so successful for 50 years primarily due to our dedicated volunteers like Stephen and John”.
I couldn't agree more. In my 28 years on the Squad, I've always felt that people are our most valuable asset. For nearly 50 years, Summit has been blessed with enough community minded neighbors willing to volunteer their time and skills to make ours one of the best EMS agencies in the state.
In just a few weeks, the Squad will celebrate the golden anniversary with a block party event on July 28; 50 years to the day from our founding. We hope you'll join us for the fun. Stop by our building anytime between from 11 AM and 4 PM.
We are always looking for new members to join our ranks. All needed training, uniforms and equipment is provided. For information, please call 908-277-9479, or visit our web site at: www.summitems.org.
