Congressman Leonard Lance recently paid a visit to the new headquarters of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad. After congratulating squad volunteers for being selected as the EMS Squad of the Year by the EMS Council of New Jersey, the Congressman and his staff were given a tour of their new facility and overview of the of the Squad’s mission and response equipment. Lance recently agreed to support an application by the First Aid Squad to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for a grant to purchase new life saving equipment. The Lucas Chest Compression System is designed to provide near perfect CPR compressions and can significantly improve the chances of survival of cardiac arrest.
In 1993, the Summit First Aid Squad was among the first agencies in the area to obtain and semi-automatic external defibrillator (AED) and used it successfully to revive a cardiac arrest patient just 2 months after it was placed in service. The Squad hopes the new compression device will help save additional lives.
