Thanks to the generosity of Summit residents, business, and local foundations Summit's all-volunteer First Aid Squad was able to build a new headquarters to replace the aging building they had used for over 50 years. Now your neighbors at the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad need some help to put the finishing touches on the new home that is expected to serve the volunteers and the community for the next 50 years or more.
The Buy-A-Brick program allows you to support the Squad and also become part of their history. Commemorative bricks are available in 3 sizes and will be engraved with text chosen by each supporter. A logo or graphic of the donor's choosing may also be included. Each brick will be installed in the walkway outside the main entrance to the Squad's new headquarters on Summit Ave. across from the Lawton C Johnson Middle School.
Bricks can be ordered online, via mail, or in person. For details please visit http://summitems.org/brick or contact John Staunton at: jstaunton@summitems.org
In addition to serving as the base of operations for Emergency Medical Services in Summit, the new building is also being used by various community organizations for meetings and events and was recently approved by the State Department of Health as an EMT program training site. The new building has already hosted several classes for both community groups as well as continuing education sessions for existing EMTs. The new Dept. of Health approval now allows the Squad to conduct the full Emergency Medical Technician course as well.
The First Aid Squad is funded solely by private donations, provides all services free of charge and is staffed 100% by volunteers. The First Aid Squad is always looking for new members to join its ranks. All needed training, uniforms and equipment is provided. For information, please call 908-277-9479, or click HERE.
